My Work

My work is politically motivated and centres around human migration.

I challenge my audience to ask questions about how thinking is shaped by movement.

01

Incorporation

Immigrants come to Aotearoa as highly qualified people. They bring knowledge and expertise the country needs. Yet as a new comer, you should fit but you just don't quite. The bureaucracy ties everything together. The hoops you jump keep you together.

02

Blended

Under intense pressure and heat two opposing and antagonistic materials, such as porcelain and ferrous metal can combine. This series looks at the question of assimilation. Is it possible? Does it take time or is the animosity to foreign occupation always under the surface?

03

Kente

This series explores the multicultural lands I have lived in and the vibrant colours of the ethnic materials wore there. Saris, Kente, Chitenga. The market places were melting pots for many different groups to come together and commune on colourful costume.

04

Endeavour

This series explores both my English and my Dutch heritage and their pursuit of new lands be it for wealth or the dream of a better life. The raw earth they tilled and the the finery they tried to hold on to in harsh lands that did not welcome them.
