Social Upliftment Projects

As I grew up surrounded by abject poverty I realised my purpose was to aid social empowerment. As a continued commitment to my current home, the Porirua community, I provide free workshops to community and social groups in Porirua.

Please feel free to contact me for further details.

Social Outreach and Upliftment Workshops

Social empowerment can be individual or on a grand scale. I like to start small but think that small steps create positive reactions never the less.

Working with clay has both physical and emotional benefits.

It helps to exercise the hands and wrists, improves fine motor skills. It helps focus and sensory development, reduces symptoms of arthritis and is a natural painkiller as cortisol levels significantly decrease when doing pottery.  The work concentrates your body and requires calm and patience.

The workshops I hold are person centred, with nothing prescribed. Each person is given the basic tools and skills from which to follow their own explorative, creative journey, while sharing and learning from those around them.

The calm atmosphere and the hands on nature of clay improve mood and reduce anxiety and stress. The promotion of relaxation and social connection is not just in the moment but is longer lasting and filters through the whanau. A sense of gratification having made something will increase the optimistic outlook and self-esteem of the individual. With ramifications flowing to the many.

If you have a group that will benefit from this activity, please contact me.
